Sustainability

Sustainability Matters Here

In one of Cambodia’s most isolated regions, where government services are minimal or non-existent, we are building a culture of environmental sustainability — through daily practice, community innovation, and student-led learning.

On Kulen Mountain, there is no trash collection, no sanitation infrastructure, and no access to safe waste disposal. For most families, burning plastic and dumping waste are daily realities.

At our schools, we model a different way forward: one that protects the environment and empowers our students to be agents of change in their communities.

Quote by Kosal, Now grade 7, Graduated from our primary school Learning Center
“In the Learning Center,I learned how to speak English, we learned new words every day, and had fun with my friends. I was very happy when we played games and did fun activities. I laughed, smiled, and felt joy in my heart. The Learning Center made me feel safe, loved, and proud of myself.”
Building a cleaner, greener future.

What We're Doing

Recycling at the Boarding School

Our boarding school in Siem Reap has a structured waste separation and recycling system. Students actively participate in sorting materials and understanding the recycling cycle — transforming waste management into a hands-on learning experience.

Composting & Gardening

Composting & Gardening

We compost all organic waste from meals and use the compost to grow fruit trees and garden plants on campus. These fruits are served as snacks to students, reducing food waste and providing nutritious, locally sourced options.

What Our Students Learn

Our commitment to sustainability is integrated directly into our curriculum and daily campus life.

Climate change and global warming

The dangers of plastic waste and pollution

Practical recycling and composting skills

Gardening, biodiversity, and food systems

Water conservation and sanitation awareness

Community-led environmental responsibility

Sustainability as Leadership

students are learning to care for their environment,

to educate others, and to be proud stewards of the land they live on.

Our model empowers them to carry this knowledge into adulthood,
transforming their communities in the process.

Help Us

Volunteer

Kulen Outreach offers a meaningful volunteer experience in urban Siem Reap and the rural villages of Phnom Kulen. Volunteers support our Enrichment Program and visit countryside schools, helping students practice English and build confidence.

Our ethical, community-focused program requires at least a one-month commitment. Many volunteers form lasting relationships while contributing to real educational impact. Enquire today to get started.

Support a Student

Partnering with Kulen Outreach supports students from remote Kulen Mountain villages who are determined to continue their education, many of them young women overcoming significant barriers. Students like Reaksmey, now in grade 7, find confidence, community, and joy through our Learning Center.

While only a small percentage of Cambodians complete high school, nearly all our students graduate and most continue to university. Your partnership helps sustain these life-changing opportunities and creates pathways to brighter futures.
